About
Horahora School is a small, rural, full primary school 20 minutes south-east of Cambridge in the dairy farming district of Waikato, New Zealand. We are nestled in the foothills of Maungatautari mountain and just 5 minutes from the upper reaches of Lake Karapiro.
Horahora School is a family school where all children work and play together as one. Family values are fostered and links with the wider community encouraged. We have a whole school overnight camp each year that utilises what our local community has to offer; A 7 hour hike over Mt Maungatautari, immersing ourselves in our Maori culture at Pohara Marae, tenting on the school field and raft building and racing or go-karting at Finlay Park are but a few of the experiences offered.
The school has a strong focus on the basics and ensures that literacy and numeracy skills are well grounded alongside higher order thinking and ICT skills. Each class has at least 4 PCs and has recently purchased 12 mini laptops for students’ use.
Having multi-level classes means students are offered many opportunities for leadership and responsibility. In addition, students have the opportunity to be ‘elected’ to a student council while in Year 7 or 8. The Student Council organise student events including Discos, fundraising for outings, school improvements, etc.
Horahora School has an “open door” policy and welcomes parents at all times.
If you wish to discuss anything regarding the education of your children with teachers,
please feel free to contact or meet with them at anytime, outside of teaching hours.
