Kawau Island Camp 2010

Kawau Island Camp 2010

31 May – 04 June

We are now back from camp after an action packed week. The weather was generally kind to us and in the warm micro-climate we were able to continue with most of our programme.

After arriving at camp around 3.00pm, unpacking and setting up rooms a game of Animal Survival was had on the bush clad hills behind camp. The  exciting variance on hide and seek was enjoyed by all.

Tuesday morning was rain soaked till lunchtime but we filled the time making balloon animals and doing the Polar Plunge in the rain! After lunch it was off on an eventful walk to the beach – over tidal mudflats and wading through knee deep creeks. At the beautiful beach swims were taken, streams dammed and rock pools explored. The 1 1/4 hour walk each way used much pent up energy and a great time was had by all.

Wednesady, we had an early start with the first round of rotations (fishing, kayaking, sailing, confidence course & orienteering) before catching the ferry to School House bay for an hour long walk to the old copper mine and then to Mansion House for a tour before heading back to Camp Bentzon for some more activities.

Thursaday was rotations day with everyone completing all activities. There were lots of challenges and lots of fun in the busy action-packed day! The concert that night was filled with much hilarity’

And sadly Friday saw us pack up and catch an early (9am) ferry home to beat the long weekend Auckland traffic. All children arrived home safe but tired and eager to tell their parents of their many adventures.

Many thanks to all our parent helpers without whom we could not have had our camp. We really appreciated you giving up your week and all the hard work you did during camp.
