Rimu – Years 3 – 5
Below you will find a selection of the work done by students of Rimu during this year, 2010.
We read a poem called Remembering Summer and we used this as a template for writing our own Remembering Summer poems.
On cold winter days…
My feet remember racing around my house
My legs remember going to the Flat White cafe
My body remembers going to aus
My arms remember sleeping in bed
My hands remember said hi
My face remembers doing maths
My eyes remember looking at the beach
My mind remembers that summer will be back soon
by Bryn, Year 4.
On cold icy winter days…
I remember the hot blazing sun as I dig my feet into the sand looking into the beautiful dark blue sky…
and my soft tanned legs remember the super duper games of cricket as the blazing sun slowly moves behind the dark green mountains….
My heart beating body remembers the dark night as we pull in the slippery long line….
And my bony hands remember cuddling my soft pillow in the dark sparkling night…
And my bright red sunburnt face remembers the hot sweat running down my face as I gallop down the beach…
And my big brainy mind remembers that summer is coming back soon.

On Cold Winter Days …
My feet remember getting prickles in them everyday.
My legs remember lying in the sun and getting burnt.
My body remembers cuddling Mum and Dad.
My arms remember picking flowers for Mum.
My face remembers looking at the everyday and every night.
My mind remembers that summer will be back soon.

Here you see our official class photo taken in Term 2…. don’t we all look great?
During Term 2 we did some descriptive writing about our big old oak tree….
When I sit under the old oak tree I smell, see, hear and feel the sound of rusty leaves, I see blue sky ,smell the fresh clean air and feel the rough leaves soaring through my fingers.
A the wind blows I hear something crunchy my heart starts to pump then all of a sudden I look up in the tree and see the crispy leaves waving in the wind!!
Phew that’s a sigh of relief!!
by Tayla, Year4.
The ancient oak tree rustles and sways in the windy Autumn days as it shreds its leaves it also blows its sparkling orange and red shredded leaves every where in the wet windy Autumn days as the branches off the old ancient oak tree as the class looks up at it.
by Josh D, Year 4.
We also did some character descriptions about our parents…..
Dad’s prickly and smooth skin makes people scared. His eyes are blue and very bright. His hair is kind of brown and blonde. His mouth is big and can get lots of food in it. Dad’s arms are long and hairy but they are good for working hard. Dad’s face is clean and spotless. Dad’s voice is in a very deep tone and makes me feel safe. I feel safe with Dad.
by Zak, Year 6.
Mum’ smooth slick skin smothers her face with a layer of pure love. Underneath it, her eyes glimmer like a star in the sky as her hair sways from side to side Mum’s smooth pink skin covers her lips as loving words come out of her mouth and as her arms wrap around me, her words make me fill up with love. Mum’s soft body warms me inside and she makes me feel safe when she is around me.
by Josh M, Year 4.
Deb’s skin cuddles me like a blanket being really soft. Her dark brown eyes are like bark on a tree, well, they stare at me. Her black hair spikes up with fun and laughter, well, it spikes up in the air. Her mouth glitters at me, well, she sends love to me. Her whole face shines at me, well, she walks up to me and her arms flap around me like a tree in the wind blowing. Her legs move slowly like a turtle in the water. Her voice twitters, well, she talks slowly to me and she talks like a car going around in circles. I feel comfortable with her because I know I can trust her from the bottom of my heart and soul.
By Brittany, Year 5.
Mum’s soft skin makes me feel happy like I’m having a good time.
Her blue eyes sparkle like the sea.
Her mouth slowly moves as she whispers to me as I walk down the street.
Mum’s smooth hair tickles me when I cuddle her.
Her wonderful face makes me feel warm inside when she smiles at me.
Her lovely warm arms cuddle me as she puts me to bed.
Her body is a little too thin because she rushes like a bee looking for honey.
Mum’s sparkly teeth sparkle like the stars.
Her caring voice makes me feel very happy.
by Bianca, Year 3.
Dad’s nice wrinkled and whiskery smooth skin sticks to his face like bark sticking to a tree. His sparkling blue eyes shine in the sun light. His white hair falls as he gets older. His smooth skin sticks to his body like paper sticking to cardboard. His strong arms are like guns firing at a wall. His big strong body is like an indestructible shield. His nice voice is like a pussy cat. My dad makes me feel safe at home.
by Alex M.G, Year 4.
Daddy’s smooth lovely skin, with bluey, greeny, sparkling like a lovely star eye, lovely soft like a leaf, that was his mouth, like a spikey hedgehog with hair, his whole face makes me feel OK as his arms wrap around me! His whole body makes me smile like a smiley girl and his voice is strong like a monster and makes me brave.
by Keara, Year 3.
Our Visual Art has focussed around fish. We have sketched fish, made cardboard prints of fish and used pastels to draw pictures of our fish. Below you will see a slideshow of some of our cool art work…..
